Rico Ellis Cable Car Blues Band

Former San Francisco private detective Donovan Plant spent nearly two decades chasing leads and tailing cheaters before returning to his musical roots. He blends rock, pop and country influences with lyrics inspired by the city.  In 2011, Donovan released his first EP, "Be With You" (Niteflite Music - Germany), which included a video produced and directed by Ricky Kelley.  He has volunAt the young age of 5, Rico got his first piano as a gift from his grandfather. Early influences include classical concert pianist, studying the greats such as Chopin, Beethoven, and Bach.

Classical pianists weren’t the only focus for Rico. Having deep rooted family values, his mother made sure Rico attended church service every Sunday. It was at this point that Rico found his musical spark. He gravitated toward the soulful nature of gospel music, capturing attention and generating excitement for all that listened. Rico used this in conjunction with rhythm and blues he would hear on the radio to refine his personal approach to music.

From this, Rico started his first band at 16 years old, taking on gigs at the US Army and naval bases when he could, as well as night clubs, even though he was under age.

Ever committed to the world of music, he got an associates degree at San Francisco City College before continuing at San Jose State. During this time, Rico got into a band and spent much of his free time playing at the college night club on campus while maintaining a full time job. Rico found his voice in his work for a cable car company in SF, bringing together many likeminded individuals and their love for music, eventually forming a group called “The Cable Car Band”.eered with Bread and Roses Presents, Meals on Wheels and had the honor of playing inside San Quentin State Prison in 2016 and 2017 as part of their annual Day of Peace celebrations.  In 2017, Donovan signed with Angel Blossom Records and began work on an EP with Grammy  balloted Artist/Producer Scott Mickelson. His EP “City Lights” was released at the end of 2018 which included a song inspired by San Francisco political graffiti writer, cultural provocateur and political activist Eclair Bandersnatch and an animated music video by Chilean animation artist Esteban Montero.
